Legal Update for Special Education Law – Updates from the U.S. Department of Education

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) recently released a new comprehensive guidance document to increase the understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act’s assistive technology (AT) requirements for school age children and early intervention services.

The documents include “Dear Colleague Letters” and “Myths and Facts Surrounding Assistive Technology Devices and Services,” which seek to dispel misconceptions regarding the use of AT and provide examples of the use of AT devices for children with disabilities and to highlight the different requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
